Capture Coolamon Shire Photo Competition and Exhibition

Capture Coolamon Shire celebrates its 9th year.

An impressive 269 entries were received across the youth and open categories. Photos were submitted across five categories landscape, built environment, nature, people study and sports, events & festivals. The competition also includes a beyond the boundary category for photos taken outside the Shire.

This year the competition welcomes the following judges, Ganmain photographer Jodie Harris from Down Brushwood Road, photographer John Egan and Tim Kurylowicz, Executive Director from Eastern Riverina Arts. The judges were very impressed with the quality and creativity of the entries.

An opening night was unable to go ahead due to COVID-19 safe requirements, the 2020 award ceremony was announced on the Capture Coolamon Shire Facebook Page. This is still available for viewing on the page.

A new addition to the 2020 competition is the inclusion of a ‘Runner Up’ Major Prize to the value of $500. Congratulations to Jamie Blair for ‘Mothers Natures Eye’. The $1000 major prize, awarded to the image that “Best Depicts the Coolamon Shire” was awarded to Michael Reid for “Colours of Coolamon”.

The major prize and runner up major prize are chosen by Coolamon Shire Council Mayor John Seymour and General Manager Tony Donoghue. These images were chosen as they both show great technique and a stunning representation of year we’ve had across the Shire.

Both of these prizes are proudly sponsored by Coolamon Shire Council.

The Exhibition will be on display in the Coolamon Up-to-date Store until Sunday 15 November 2020. Throughout the duration of the exhibition there is a ‘People’s Choice’ award where members of the community and visitors can vote for their favourite image.
